Who we are

Low HIll Garden is a small market garden 12 miles from downtown Harrisonburg, VA, in the western hills of the Shenandoah Valley. We grow flowers and nutrient-dense vegetables for a weekly subscription program and through our Saturday morning farm stand.

We started our farming journey in 2024, with 2025 being our first year selling our products. We love to cook and prepare meals with vegetables we harvest from the garden, and sharing that bounty with our friends and neighbors brings us feelings of great purpose and joy.

Tim grew up in Harrisonburg and graduated from HHS, UVa (‘13), and UNC-CH (‘16, M.Sc. Cell Biology).

Stephanie was born and raised in Elizabeth City, NC and grew up playing in the swamps and rivers of eastern North Carolina before graduating from ECU (‘13) and moving to the Raleigh/Durham area, where she met Tim.

Ferguson is a Chihuahua/American Sock Hound mix with a deep passion for broccoli stems.

How we grow

Our garden focuses on intensive vegetable and flower production by employing ecologically friendly methods to encourage soil health and biodiversity. Although we are not certified Organic or Naturally Grown (this being our first year of production and being ineligible), we do utilize many of the same techniques that underpin these certification bodies. Namely, we never use synthetic chemical amendments or spray applications, nor do we grow GMOs. We are committed to upholding the ideals of the organic movement. We encourage healthy soil by managing our garden beds with low-till methods including broadforking, tilthing, and organic mulching. We manage pests and weeds mechanically with exclusion netting and manual cultivation.
